Ingestion Risk (Children and Pets)
• Do not ingest: Although traditional Chinese medicine may have used certain types of ink in the past, modern ink sticks are not food-grade and must absolutely not be swallowed.
• In the event of oral contact by a child: If a child accidentally licks a small amount of pure ink, simply rinse their mouth with clean water (the risk of acute toxicity is very low). In the event of substantial ingestion, the animal gelatin may cause digestive problems.
• Special caution: Colored ink sticks (particularly those containing cinnabar) may contain traces of heavy metals. If any of these are ingested, consult a doctor immediately.

Skin Contact and Cleaning
• Skin safety: Liquid ink on the skin is harmless. As it dries, the gelatin may cause a tight feeling. Simply clean with warm water and soap before the ink dries.
• Stains on clothing: If the ink stains fabric, rub the area with cooked rice grains (which absorb the glue) before washing it.

Storage and Physical Safety
• Risk of breakage and cuts: High-quality ink sticks are very hard but fragile (brittle). If they fall or undergo thermal shock, they may crack or shatter. Broken edges may be sharp and cause cuts.
• Proper storage: After use, carefully wipe the stick with a cloth or paper to dry it, then store it in its box. Keep it out of children's reach to prevent them from mistaking it for a piece of chocolate.
