Traditional seal ink for calligraphy and painting

This traditional Chinese seal paste (印泥) is carefully formulated to ensure a crisp, durable impression when applying seals to calligraphy or painting artworks. Thanks to its natural ingredients, it provides excellent staying power, a smooth texture, and a vivid red color.

Use: Ideal for seals used in calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and seal carving (篆刻)

Ingredients:

• High-quality cinnabar powder (朱砂)
• Mugwort fiber (艾绒)
• Castor oil (蓖麻油)

• Normal use: Stable and not directly hazardous to health during standard office or artistic use (temporary skin contact).
• Main risks:
  • Toxic if swallowed: Cinnabar contains mercury. Ingestion is strictly prohibited.
  • Inhalation of vapors: Do not expose to extreme heat. Burning cinnabar releases toxic mercury vapors.
• First aid
  • Skin contact: Wash hands immediately with soap and water after use.
  • Eye contact: Do not rub. Rinse thoroughly with clean water for at least 15 minutes.
  • If swallowed: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse the mouth with water and immediately contact a doctor or poison control center.
  • Contact with a wound: Do not apply to damaged skin or an open wound (the ink is not sterile).

Safe handling and storage

• Application: Gently tap the seal onto the paste without pressing, to prevent splashes or excessive buildup.
• Maintenance tools: To mix the traditional ink, never use a metal spatula (risk of oxidation and blackening). Use a bone, agate, or plastic spatula.
• Container: Store the traditional ink in a porcelain or glass pot. Avoid metal (chemical reaction) and wood or terracotta (which absorb the oil).
• Storage: Close the lid after use. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and flames.

Disposal and the environment

• Environmental protection: Do not dispose of large quantities of ink residue in household waste or drains (risk of water pollution).
