This traditional Chinese seal paste (印泥) is carefully formulated to ensure a clear, long-lasting impression when applying seals to calligraphy or painting artworks. Thanks to its natural ingredients, it offers excellent adhesion, a smooth texture, and a vivid red color.
Specifications: Outer diameter of 6 -7 cm
Use: Ideal for seals used in calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, and seal engraving (篆刻)
Ingredients:
- Premium-quality cinnabar powder (朱砂)
- Mugwort fiber (艾绒)
- Castor oil (蓖麻油)
- Normal use: Stable and not directly hazardous to health during standard office or artistic use (temporary skin contact).
-
Main risks:
- Toxic if swallowed: Cinnabar contains mercury. Ingestion is strictly prohibited.
- Inhalation of vapors: Do not expose to extreme heat. Burning cinnabar releases toxic mercury vapors.
-
First aid
- Skin contact: Wash hands immediately with soap and water after use.
- Eye contact: Do not rub. Rinse thoroughly with clean water for at least 15 minutes.
- If swallowed: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse the mouth with water and consult a doctor or poison control center immediately.
- Contact with a wound: Do not apply to damaged skin or an open wound (the ink is not sterile).
Safe handling and storage
- Application: Gently tap the seal onto the ink without pressing to avoid splashing or excessive buildup.
- Maintenance tools: When mixing traditional ink, never use a metal spatula (risk of oxidation and blackening). Use a bone, agate, or plastic spatula.
- Container: Store traditional ink in a porcelain or glass pot. Avoid metal (chemical reaction) and wood or terracotta (which absorb the oil).
- Storage: Close the lid after use. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and flames.
Disposal and the environment
-
Environmental protection: Do not dispose of large quantities of ink residue in household waste or drains (risk of water pollution).
- Disposal: Dispose of waste in accordance with local regulations for chemical products or office supplies.
