Paper made from mulberry fibers (楮皮纸) has a history as old as that of hemp paper. Made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, with the addition of a percentage of ramie fibers (麻料), it is distinguished by its great flexibility and strength, superior to that of classic xuan paper. Chupi Huangma paper, renowned for its fineness, rustic texture, and ability to fully reveal the nuances of ink.
On June 7, 2008, mulberry fiber paper was officially listed as a national intangible cultural heritage of China, highlighting its historical, artistic and cultural value.
